Cordyseps Worm, Annapurna Trek

This is a weird one. Around the tiny village of Yak Kharka (4100m), dozens of lowland Nepalis flock here, set-up camp and venture out to make their fortune. Above the tree line and in the freezing cold, single men and ill-equipped families come in search of the illusive worms infected with the cordyceps sinensis fungus. Found only at high altitude, the worms are a prized and valuable medicinal ingredient in, well, you guessed it, China! A few weeks later, we saw the same worms for sale at a 'pharmacy' in Chongqing.
