New Zealand

An astonishing 66% of New Zealand men, aged 18-45, served in the forces during WWII. Cenotaphs, memorials, cairns and plaques dot the cities and towns throughout the country. The one above has an inscription from Rudyard Kipling:

From little towns in a far land we came,
To save our honour and a world aflame.
By little towns in a far land we sleep;
And trust that world we won for you to keep.
