Indonesia has almost 17,000 islands, big and small, and the contrasts here are profound: stunning coastline next to squalid, garbage-filled harbors, thick jungle and slash & burn farming, lovely people yet psychotic drivers and deeply corrupt politicians, gorgeous coral reefs and a burgeoning, impoverished population. The future of all the good things seems sadly uncertain.
