For all the culture of Luang Prabang, Laos is also home to what must be one of the most debaucherous and fun towns in all of Asia: Vang Vieng. Overlooked by tall limestone karsts and forested hills, VV lies on the Nam Song river where visitors, kitted out with big inner tubes, float downstream, enjoying the scenery and the riverfront bamboo bars. Christmas Day here was unforgettable. Each bar has its own creative zip line, bungy swing or diving platform, some at least 20' high. Each provide an adrenaline rush and a hilarious thrill, and everyone's liquid courage grows with each emptied Beerlao. I was lucky to spend the day with an amazing group of travellers from Canada, Holland, Israel, and the UK. Like all days in VV, this one ended at one of the local outdoor nightclubs on the Island next to the river. Highly recommended.
